I have avoided Skylanders with every ounce of energy I can muster. It’s a money trap and I don’t have the money. Several times I have considered going through and stocking up on the figures and then selling them for a hefty profit on eBay, but always refrain.
Part of my hesitation at playing it, other than I know the resulting windfall of stupid plastic figurines that would inhabitant my house afterwards, was that I just couldn’t get into the way the game was played or the story behind it.
Then Disney introduced this little gem this past week. Disney Infinity.
Damn you Disney. Damn you to hell.
See, I am without a doubt a huge Disney freak. Own most of the movies and will watch almost anything they release in terms of animation and big budget films. All of this, even BEFORE I was a father.
The premise is similar to Skylanders, but looks infused with a better gameplay mechanic, and of course all the kick ass property that comes with Disney’s name. I’m going to buy this in June, and I foresee my child and I wasting a couple hundred hours on it. This may be my new Skyrim if they pull it off correctly.
I’m a huge Batman fan. I think I’ve said this before. Even if I haven’t, I have now. I try to follow all the Batman news and comics that I can but it’s hard in this day and age to fully get engrossed in comics. Time and cost, as well as finding a store that keeps newer comics stocked (unless you have a nearby Comic Book shop) can all be difficult.
But if you read ANY comics on the shelf right now, and you do NOT read what Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo are doing right now with Batman and Joker in the DC Comics BATMAN series, then you are missing out on some of the best story telling in the medium for the last 10 years.
Scott Snyder seems to be a man that has the deepest knowledge of not only Batman but the Joker as well. Anything Snyder has written for the man behind the cowl in the last 2 years has been ridiculously awesome. When the story wraps up in February with Batman #17, expect a review on the Death of the Family arc.
I’m going to keep this short.
In a time when all athletes were finding an edge with PED’s, and in the only sport other than baseball where the entire majority of participants were more than likely doing it, Lance Armstrong proved to be the best. Period.
Give him his slap on the wrist, and get over it.
